The riders of Team Visma | Lease a Bike have had an eventful spring. Despite a few injuries and crashes, the first tours of the year and the Spring Classics were full of highlights for the Bees!
At the World Tours in spring, young stars Olaf Kooij (Tour of Oman), Ben Tulett (Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali), Matthew Brennan (Volta a Catalunya, Tour de Romandie) and Imogen Wolff (Vuelta a Extremadura) won various stages. The first tours of the year were crowned by Jonas Vingegaard's GC victory at the Volta ao Algarve in Portugal and Matteo Jorgenson's second triumph in the prestigious Paris-Nice race. There, second-placed Vingegaard crashed heavily and had to leave the race early; fortunately, his preparations for the Tour de France were not affected any further.
In the early classics, Wout van Aert once again showed that he belongs to the absolute world elite of cycling: twice in Flanders, Brabant, Paris-Roubaix and Amsterdam, the Belgian rode right up to the end and achieved several 2nd and 4th places. After his serious injury at the Vuelta last year, there were many question marks over his 2025 season, and the Belgian press in particular was harsh on the all-rounder; the fact that van Aert was able to ride with riders such as Mathieu van der Poel, Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel in every classic gives reason to look forward to what the Belgian can and will achieve in the Grand Tours this summer.
The crowning glory of the season so far for the Women's Team took place in France: Pauline Ferrand-Prévot confirmed her excellent form with a breathtaking solo to victory in Roubaix. After tiring out the competition on the cobbles of the “Hell of the North” together with Marianne Vos, Ferrand-Prévot broke away 25 km before the finish and left the chasers around world champion Lotte Kopecky no chance. Her return to the road bike has already paid off!
The Vuelta Feminina is already in full swing for the Women's Team, and after a chaotic first Time Trial stage, Marianne Vos won the second stage with an impressive sprint. She is now the holder of the green sprint jersey, which she now has to defend!
The first Grand Tour of the year is now coming up for the men's team: The Giro d'Italia! With van Aert, Yates, Kooij, van Baarle, Kelderman, Affini, Kruijswijk and Lemmen, excitement is guaranteed, and in the absence of last year's winner Tadej Pogacar, it's all the more important to go all out for victory!
We are excited and hope for many highlights and injury-free first Grand Tours!
